Multiple Station Shipping System
Overview The Multiple Station Network version enables the Malvern Manifest System to process an unlimited number of transactions in a shipping period. The Network option allows two or more Malvern workstations to be linked together, providing consolidated carrier manifests and internal accounting reports, as well as up-to-the-minute shipping history inquiries. Each station in the network can be configured with its own unique complement of peripheral devices (scales, printers, etc.), allowing great flexibility.
How it works Malvern's Network configuration can use a dedicated file server, share an existing file server with other applications, or simply maintain its data on one of the workstations. With optional integration to host-based programs, the Multiple Station Network option provides streamlined, integrated order-processing capabilities that allow specific shipment requests to be sent to the Malvern system and processed at different times from different stations. The Malvern Network option keeps track of all relevant information, and provides consolidated shipping and tracking information to the host.
The core Malvern Manifest System programs are resident on a network server, which may be dedicated or non-dedicated. Each shipping station will access the network server for all runtime programs, as well as any order information that may have been downloaded from a host application. Each individual station will process parcels and write transaction information back to the server, where it is consolidated and indexed with transaction information from the other stations. Multiple parcel orders may be split between shipping stations. At system close, consolidated transaction output files and system reports generated, including consolidated carrier manifests. All post-processing routines, as well as Hundredweight Optimizer and FedEx Ground Multiweight processing, are performed at the server and calculated based upon transaction information obtained from all of the stations.
The networked shipping system provides great flexibility in individual station configuration. For example, stations may be configured differently for printing options and peripherals, carrier tracking numbers, and scale configurations. The networked version of the Malvern system may be configured optionally so that each shipping station is able to interface in real-time to a variety of host applications and hardware platforms. A variety of Malvern network licenses are available, starting with a two-station site license.
